Library Redesign Project
Abstract
The author explores engaging students with 21st century learning tools in a problem-based action research project in the learning commons designed through collaboration between classroom teacher and teacher-librarian. They share the design for the project, data collection methods, how they created and implemented the unit, analysis of the project results and a summary of the findings indicating their success. The project template, student comments and project samples illustrate the paper.
Alicia Quennell is the full time teacher-librarian at Sandalwood Heights Secondary School in Brampton, and has worked in the Peel District School Board since 2005. With a focus on collaboration, Alicia promotes the Library Learning Commons by integrating 21st Century teaching and learning tools, building inquiry based curriculum, and promoting the love of reading. Alicia also participates as an active member of the Peel Secondary School Teacher Librarian executive, and volunteers with the White Pine Selection and Peel Fiction Review Committees.
